You probably never even considered reading up on rules and laws about blogging? Or that there might be legal mistakes you’re making on your blog without even realising?
All websites have a legal requirement to protect the privacy of their customers, clients, and readers by declaring how they use their information and confirming that they keep it private.
This information includes the visitor’s name, email, location or address, blog comments, phone number, IP address, etc.
Do I really need one?
Even if you don’t think you collect personal data you probably are – usernames and emails in comments left on your blog count as personal data for example.
It’s worth paying for a template so you have peace of mind that you won’t be sued.
Feel free to look at the privacy policies of other bloggers so you know what should and shouldn’t be included, but remember theirs might not meet all the legal requirements in the first place so it’s best not to just copy and paste someone else’s policy.
Add these somewhere prominent where they can be easily found, rather than hidden behind other links or pages.
The best place to add a link to these policies is within the footer of your blog so that the link appears on every page.
