New year’s resolutions for bloggers
December 17, 2018
With the end of the year getting closer, have you given any thought to New Year’s resolutions?
We’re not talking about getting fit, going to bed earlier or drinking more water (though these are all good resolutions!) but more about resolutions for your blog.
It doesn’t matter if you are a new blogger or an established, successful blogger – setting blogging goals is a must if you want your blog to grow.
So, what do you want to achieve in 2019? Do you have your sights set on some blogging goals?
Take some time to reflect on the past year and what you have achieved. Do you want to go bigger or just manage more of the same?
Whatever you want from your blog, whether it’s simply to write more posts or to turn your blog into a business, it’s important to set yourself some goals and work out a plan of how you are going to get there.
We’ve put together a list of new year’s resolutions for bloggers that you could add to your list…
Create a blogging schedule
Do you have a blogging schedule set up? Have you sat down and worked out how many times a week and on what days you’re going to publish new blog posts?
When are you going to work on your blog admin and fill up your social media calendar?
If you don’t have all of this worked out yet, now is the time to get yourself organised for the year ahead.
Having a set plan will help you to produce more of the content your readers love, promote your blog posts to a wider audience, and avoid the stress of “winging it” in 2019.
Increase your social media followers
How many social media followers did you gain across your accounts last year? If you’re not sure of the answer, the start of a new year is the perfect time to start keeping track.
Write down how many social media followers you have right now and set yourself a monthly target of how many followers you want to get to.
Think about how you will go about gaining more followers and make a note of how many you gain and lose at the end of each month so you can see what is or isn’t working.

If you are still using a free blogging platform, is it time you started taking your blog seriously and bit the bullet to go self-hosted?
Having a self-hosted blog allows you to customise your blog design, use Google Analytics to track who is visiting your blog and what pages they are viewing, and monetise your blog by implementing adverts.
There are many different hosting companies offering a wide range of services at varying prices.
We always recommend Siteground as this is the best prices and most reliable host we have used – and we’ve been through a few!
Monetise your blog
Maybe you haven’t yet started earning money from your blog, or maybe you want to earn more in 2019. Set yourself a realistic monthly goal of how much you would like to earn, and write down some ideas of how you are going to achieve these numbers.
Try different options and see which ones work for you. Just remember these aren’t quick money making schemes so give each one a few months to see which works.
Learn something new
A great new year’s resolution for anyone, blogger or not, is to learn a new skill or take a course. There are lots of fantastic online blogging resources to teach you everything from affiliate marketing to social media to SEO.
There are also many online courses where you can learn from industry experts, we have listed our favourite courses for bloggers here.
Generally speaking, the more blog posts you publish, the more traffic you will receive to your blog. However, it is important to point out that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to content. Writing good quality posts that people want to read is vital.
If you wrote one blog post a week last year, why not aim for 2 a week this year? If you wrote two posts a week in 2018, could you write 3 posts each week in 2019?
If you don’t want to write more blog posts, try sticking to the same number of posts but writing longer content. Long-form content performs better in search engine results and also helps to keep readers on your blog for longer.
