What does repurposing content mean?
Repurposing content is when you take a piece of existing content and re-use it to reach a new audience who may not have read the post when it was first published.
Why you should consider repurposing content
Repurposing content helps you to reach new readers who may have never visited your blog before. Maybe they weren’t interested in the subject at the time but they are searching for that topic now.
Having multiple pieces of content on the same subject helps to improve the SEO of your blog. Repurposing content is a quick way to create more posts about a topic you have already covered.
Updating existing content allows you to add new information to a post to ensure it’s up-to-date.
What content should you repurpose?
You shouldn’t just repurpose any old blog post, you want to make sure you are working on the content that will drive more traffic to your blog.
The best content to repurpose is evergreen content – content that works at any time of the year and will still be relevant years down the line.
Head to Google Analytics to work out which blog posts you should repurpose. Look at your stats for the last year to see which of your posts have received the most views. Have another read through the post to see if you can update it or add any new information.

How to repurpose blog content
When you have chosen which blog posts you want to repurpose you need to decide what you are going to do with them.
Update existing posts
The quickest option is to update an existing blog post by adding new stats, facts and information. If you have a blog post with a list of tips, maybe you can think of a few more to add. If you have come across new information on the subject since you wrote the post you can add this now.
Break into smaller pieces
If you have a blog post that is a long list of tips, why not create new posts where you expand on one or two of the tips in more detail. This will give you a chance to provide more information on a subject you already know is popular with your readers.
Create a guide or ebook
Do you already have a series of posts on the same subject? If so, why not consider bringing them all together in a guide or by creating an ebook. You can publish it on your blog, or use it to encourage your readers to sign up to your email list in return for a copy.
Reshare on social media
Maybe you don’t need to update the post itself but haven’t shared it to social media in a while. Write some new messages, use different images, and share to your blog’s social media channels.
Have you created pins for your best performing posts? If not, now is the time to create some new pinnable images and schedule them on Pinterest.
Use the most eye-catching images on your pins and write titles and descriptions that include your keywords. Schedule them for the optimum times on Pinterest using a tool such as Tailwind.
Design an infographic
Take the content of your blog post and turn it into a visual infographic. Infographics are a great way to turn a post full of stats and facts into an easy to digest image – not to mention great to share on social media.
Optimise for SEO
If certain posts get a lot of traffic from social media but not a lot from the search engines you could probably do with improving the post’s SEO. This could include re-writing it slightly so the content is SEO friendly and optimising the images within the post.
Create a video
There are lots of people who prefer to watch a video than read a blog post so by turning your content into a video you may be able to reach a new audience. Videos are also great content to share on social media and increase engagement.
Turn into an email campaign
Once you start growing your email subscribers list you can use content to create email campaigns. An email should be short and easy to read so a long blog post would be ideal content to turn into several emails.
Hopefully, this has shown you how you can repurpose the content you have already worked so hard on to attract a new audience and grow your blog. Don’t forget about your blog posts once they have been published, think about what else you could do with them!
