November 18, 2019
Do you look back at your old blog posts and feel embarrassed over your writing? Worse still – do you look back and suddenly spot spelling and grammar mistakes that have been sat there for ages?
It happens to even the best bloggers and the good thing is that as you get more experienced at writing you can go back to your first posts and fix and mistakes.
There’s even an easy way to spot mistakes within your blog posts and it all lies with a free tool called Grammarly, a spelling and grammar checking tool.

What does Grammarly do?
Grammarly will check anything you write for more than 250 types of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors – this includes documents, emails and social media posts as well as blog posts.
It also has a ‘tone detector’ which lets you know how your message sounds, e.g. formal, friendly, worried, angry and more. This is great if you want to write in a particular style.
How do I get Grammarly?
Grammarly is really easy to use as there are free extensions for both Chrome and Firefox browsers. Simply add the extension to your chosen browser and Grammarly will start to check your writing for errors.

How do I use Grammarly to update old posts?
Once you have Grammarly installed head to any of your old posts with WordPress and you will see that Grammarly has underlined any mistakes in red. By hovering your mouse over the underlined word you can see the recommended word and by clicking on it the mistake will automatically get corrected. This makes it really easy to spot mistakes without having to read through every single blog post.
Are there any additional features?
As with most free tools, there is also a premium version if you want to get access to some extra features that will help improve your writing even more.
If you find yourself using the same words all the time the Vocabulary Enhancement feature will scan your content for any words that you have repeated too often and will suggest different words with the same meaning.
The premium version also includes a plagiarism detector that checks more than 16 billion web pages and can be integrated with Microsoft Office.
You can pay monthly, quarterly or the cheapest option is annually. Find out more about the pricing plans here.
The more you use Grammarly the more you will learn about grammar and punctuation which helps you to be a better writer and produce great, high-quality content for your blog.
If you start with the free version of the tool there’s really nothing to lose – except embarrassing mistakes in your blog posts!
