6 great ways to end a blog post
February 4, 2019
All blog posts need a beginning, a middle and an end. The beginning introduces your post, tells the reader what it is about, and makes people want to read more.
The middle tells the reader what they need to know; answering the questions they searched for to find your blog in the first place and teaching them what they need to know.
But what about the end?
The end of a blog post is just as important as the rest, and how you finish a post can be the difference between losing your readers or encouraging them to go off and explore more of your website.
If you’re struggling with how to finish your blog posts, read on for some tips on how to make the most out of those last few lines…
How to end a blog post
1. Summarise your message
A good way to wrap up a blog post is by summarising the main points you have made in the main body of the article. Summing up your key message reiterates the basic ideas and reminds the user of what they have just learnt.
Many readers will just skim read blog posts, so ending a post with key takeaways will ensure that they see the important parts.
2. Add a call-to-action
Think about what it is that you want your readers to do once they have finished reading the post. Maybe you’re hoping they will have found your post so useful and inspiring that they’ll want to sign up to receive more of the same by email? If so, add a box to allow them to subscribe to your newsletter.
Maybe you’d like your readers to enrol on a course, buy an ebook or download a PDF you have created? Whatever it is that you want your blog visitors to do, give them a form or button to take that next step.
3. Ask your readers to share your post
We all want more social media shares of our content to enable us to reach a wider audience. It can be difficult to get natural shares though, so why not just ask for them?
End your post by asking the reader to share with their friends if they enjoyed reading it, and make sure you give them the social share buttons to do this easily – there are lots of WordPress plugins to help.

4. Encourage people to leave comments
Comments are a good way to show how popular your content is, that people have found it useful, and show others that people are engaging with your blog.
If you want more comments on your blog, end your posts with a question and ask your readers to leave their answer in the comments section.
If you’re not sure what to ask, a question like “do you have any other tips?” is always a good one, or simply “I’d love to know what you think”.
5. Link to your other content
If someone has read to the end of your post then chances are they have found your content useful and want to read more. Point the reader in the direction of similar posts you have written and relevant content to encourage them to explore your blog further.
You can link to other content by simply adding links to “other content you may find useful” or adding a plugin that will insert these relevant links for you.
6. Leave them wanting more
Rather than write one lengthy post, why not split the content into smaller posts and create a series of instalments on the same subject. This is a good way to encourage people to subscribe to your blog, follow you on social media, and come back later for more.
Finish the post by letting your readers know what they can expect from the next post in the series, and when they can expect it to be published.
